Day 11: 300km in
3 April, Easter Saturday, 32km plus a bit extra
Another early start - I packed up tent before dawn, left at 5:30am, to beat at least some of the heat.
Oh, did I mention yesterday that I would not want to meet one of those giant moths in the dark??
Well, I did, while I was packing up my gear - that thing came around like a black hawk helicopter!!!!
It was overcast and a bit of a boring start to the day.
More fire trail, with not much to see apart from one huge grey kangaroo. There was literally a 7km stretch that was just straight.
Then the trail changed, the sun came out and there were suddenly lots of wild flowers. It helped keeping my mind off my very tired legs.
Breakfast break about 2 hours in with overnight oats out of a ziplock.
I had an early lunch at Yourdamung campsite and when I noticed that I had phone reception, had a lovely long chat with Birger (with a guest appearance by Mia).
I missed a turn off about an hour after lunch but noticed after about a km, so not too much harm done.
The forest really changed in the afternoon, there?s almost no fire damage around here.
I passed the 300km mark just before reaching Harris Dam campsite and just about then found a black cockatoo tail feather - how cool is that?
I had a 300-celebration with a cup of coffee and some peanut butter and jelly crackers, set up my tent and went about my usual routine of stretching/ yoga, setting up my mattress and sleeping bag and then it’s usually time for dinner.
PS: a later addition to this post - I wasn’t sure if and when I wanted to share this - my entry into the trail book on this day
